Independence Community College (ICC) is seeking applications for the tenure-track position of Associate Professor of Visual Art and Design. Position Summary
Responsible for performing a wide variety of duties, including the following: teaching undergraduate visual art and design courses as part of both general education offerings and the established Associate of Arts in Visual Arts degree track (Art Appreciation, Drawing I and II, 2D and 3D Design, Painting I and II, Ceramics, and digital graphics courses such as Digital Imaging, Illustration, Electronic Publishing, Production and Presentation Graphics, Animation, Multimedia Applications, and Theory and Practice of Graphics Design); providing regular assessment data from taught courses; collaborating with Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, and the Theatre Departments on various initiatives and recruiting events; recruiting for scholarships within Visual Arts and Design to further grow the program with both majors and nonmajors; coordinating and launching two student art shows per academic year; and other similar duties necessary to maintain and support visual art, including budget management. Position requires flexible hours, reflecting day, evening and weekend opportunities.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Visual Art with an emphasis in studio arts or graphic design or a master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate credits in the concentration. The applicant’s degree must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Preferred qualifications include two or more years of community college teaching experience, high school teaching experience, experience working with a diverse student body, and experience with assessment.

Position Information
Associate Professor of Visual Art and Designis full time, 9-month tenure-track faculty position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. The instructor reports to the VP for Academic Affairs. Start date is mid-August 2023.
The Associate Professor of Visual Art and Design will be under the supervision of the Vice President of Academic Affairs as part of the Arts and Letters Division at Independence Community College. This position requires teaching, coordinating, and recruiting for art and design classes and will also help to fulfill the mission objectives and strategies of the College.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Teaching areas include, but are not limited to: Art Appreciation, Ceramics I and II, Commercial Art, 2D Design, 3D Design, Drawing I-III, Painting I and II, Color Theory, Digital Photo I and II, Illustration, Introduction to New Media, Portfolio Development, and digital graphics courses such as Digital Imaging, Illustration, Electronic Publishing, Production and Presentation Graphics, Animation, Multimedia Applications, and Theory and Practice of Graphics Design, and other courses based on credentials. Not all of these courses are offered every year.
2. Exhibition responsibilities include: student shows in the Fine Arts Building at least twice a year.
3. Recruit students for the Visual Art program, maintaining the studio space and associated supplies and equipment.
4. Availability during posted office hours for student advisement and academic assistance. Encouraging student retention, continuity, progress in coursework and program, and student success.
5. Responsible for working with other faculty on student learning and program outcome monitoring of courses and program(s).
6. Work with other instructors and college personnel to promote ICC and the curricula offerings.
7. Fiscally responsible for assisting in budget development, budget implementation, and control necessary to deliver instructional programs in an efficient and effective manner to provide access and quality learning experiences.
8. Assist in development of new programming, including funds development, recruitment, curriculum development and revision.
9. Maintain and enhance teaching excellence through ongoing professional development by participation through in-service training, workshops, seminars, travel, and publication.
10. Provide input in the college’s organizational shared governance structure through involvement in committees, councils and supportive activities related to the development and enhancement of the college mission and strategies.
11. Provide a positive learning environment committed to ICC student success by being receptive to various learning modalities (e.g. on-line, video, accelerated, and hybrid) found in the comprehensive community college setting.
12. Provide information and assist with external reporting for accreditation, governmental, and state agencies. Complete or provide requested input for reports for external agencies as required.
13. Work with the instructional team to provide outcomes assessment, follow-up, and improvement(s).
General Responsibilities

Independence Community College (ICC) is a two-year educational institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It was established in 1925 as grades 13 and 14 of the Independence public school system. In 1967, Independence Community College legally separated from the school district. Construction of the new community college on a 68 acre campus, formerly the Independence Country Club, began in 1969. Classes at the new site began in September 1970. ICC campus is now home to the Academic Building, Fine Arts Building, Student Union, Cessna Learning Center, Field House, Administration Building, William Inge Center for the Arts, fitness center, athletic practice fields, disc golf course, 96-bed multi-structure living complex, and a 200 bed residence hall.
By renovating a donated building, in 2010, we expanded our college to include ICC West (2615 West Main Street). This campus is located on the west side of Independence and is home to our technical programs: Allied Health, Cosmetology, and GED/ABE. Additional renovations were completed in 2012 to accomodate our newest program, Veterinary Technology. This state-of-the-art facility includes animal wards, a classroom, lab, surgery, pharmacy, prep room, small animal treatment, food prep, grooming, and radiology.
ICC also maintains presence downtown through the ICC Foundation office and by partnering with the Independence Business Resource Center.
Currently, our educational and support programming includes 35 programs of study for Associates of Arts and/or Science degrees, 11 programs of study for Certificate completion, Student Support Services, Upward Bound, men's and women's athletic programs, and a variety of campus organizations and activities.
